What is the Modern Eco Village (MEV)?

The Modern Eco Village (MEV) is a a regenerative, intentional community in Planes, Spain built around sustainability, wellness, and connection. We’re co-creating a village of 500 homes with shared gardens, food systems, wellness spaces, co-working areas, and more, all designed for people who want to live slower, simpler, and more purposefully.

Our vision is to create a harmonious environment where residents can enjoy a high quality of life with focus on healthy living and social interaction while minimizing our ecological footprint. 🌳

Where is it located?

In Planes, Spain 🇪🇸 about 1 hour from Alicante and 1.5 hours from Valencia.

Which airport is best to fly into–Alicante or Valencia? Which city would be most convenient to stay in?

You can fly into either the Alicante or Valencia airport. Alicante is closer to both our office (in Albir) and the plot, but Valencia has more frequent flights.

For lodging: we suggest staying in Albir or Altea. Altea has a more local, charming feel, while Albir is a bit more touristy. Both are coastal towns with great cafés and restaurants.

Where is the closest beach?

Playa Oliva Nova is under an hour away. The MEV is also right next to a lake where we plan to create a swimmable natural beach.

What kind of people are joining the MEV?

The MEV is attracting a beautiful mix of people from all over the world from over a dozen countries so far. We have young families with toddlers, individuals building a new chapter, and folks in their 60s and 70s ready for a more grounded, connected life.

Ages range from 2 to 70+ years old, and while everyone’s background is different, what unites us is a shared desire for a slower, more meaningful way of living, close to nature, in real community.

Many are entrepreneurs, creatives, healers, remote workers, educators, and hands-on builders and growers, but more than anything, they’re people who want to live with intention, and contribute to something larger than themselves.

Do I need to contribute to the community?

This is a community-centered project, so some level of contribution is important, but that can look different for everyone. It could be through a monthly fee, volunteer work, helping neighbors, or running your own business in the MEV, etc. We welcome people at all life stages, including retirees, who often give back in quieter but deeply valuable ways such as tending the gardens or supporting parents. There’s no one-size-fits-all. Please note that the details are still evolving as the MEV progresses.

Will there be a school?

Yes. Members will help shape our educational offering, drawing from models like Waldorf, Montessori, Earth Schooling, homeschooling, and more.

Are pets allowed?

Absolutely! many of us have furry family members already. 🐶🐱

How can I stay informed?

We share updates through our weekly newsletters, live videos, podcast, and soon webcams on-site. Members also have access to private chats and neighborhood calls.

What types of homes are available?

We offer villas and customizable townhouses.

Townhouses are available in 1–6 unit configurations (up to 300 sqm). Ranging from 1 bedroom to 6+ bedrooms. With upper and lower level floor options.
Each level has a separate entrance. Upper and lower floors are not connected internally but belong to the same unit.

What materials are used in the homes?

We use sustainable, non-toxic materials like galvanized steel frames, magnesium oxide panels, rock-based insulation, and low-EMF systems.

Will there be outdoor kitchens or terraces?

Yes, private terraces are included. Outdoor kitchens are optional upgrades (€5–10K depending on design).

Can I customize my home?

Yes. You can choose between layouts, finishes, and add upgrades like outdoor kitchens or expanded solar.

What kind of warranty do homes come with?

All homes have a 10-year construction warranty and a 6-month post-handover period to resolve any final adjustments.

What is life like at MEV?

Picture walking your child to school, growing your own food, sharing meals with neighbors, practicing yoga, building projects together, and living close to nature.

What kinds of businesses or contributions can I offer?

We welcome ideas like cafés, schools, healing centers, and creative studios. Members can propose projects and co-create through our community circles.

Will there be a community council?

Yes. Members will have voting rights and shape decisions through an voting style structure and smaller focus groups (community circles).

Will there be job opportunities inside the village?

Yes. Members can offer their own services or apply to work in areas like the school, wellness center, restaurant, gardens, etc.

Are the gatherings only for members?

Not at all! They are open to both members and those seriously considering the project. They're a great way to meet the team, walk the land, and feel the community.
