Iancu Ilies

I’m a creative soul, an extrovert that gets energy from people, I’m passionate about my projects and a free spirit that needs the space to operate in my own time and on my own terms.

What country are you from?

I’m from Romania, I now live in Spain.

What drew you to the MEV and what excites you about living in this community?

The reason I’ve started this project with my wife Belinda was purely out of the need for a better house, a better garden and a supporting community. We are both drawn to nature, people with good values and a lifestyle that promotes “slow living” and health.

Who are you as a person? (personality, values, etc.)

I’m a creative soul, an extrovert that gets energy from people, I’m passionate about my projects and a free spirit that needs the space to operate in my own time and on my own terms.

Tell us about yourself and/or your family—your interests, hobbies, occupation, and passions.

My work and my only passion at the moment is the MEV but I’ve always had a passion for music and I play the piano since I was 3 years old. Even though I haven’t played music professionally for over 7 years I would like to find the time to take it up again, write more, record, and even perform for those in the village that would want to listen.

What will be your role in the community? (e.g., sustainability projects, community gatherings, permaculture, holistic wellness, creative workshops, education, etc.)

I would like, together with other people, to organise events for the villagers, set up activities that would generate interaction and unite the community.

What does your dream community look like? Dream day in the MEV?

I would like to live the lifestyle we are promoting. My “slow living” will be taking more time, be more present. I see myself waking up to a slow morning, training and a couple of hours of work, then a lunch at the cafe with others, hang out around the community building for more people and ideas, have some time for myself playing music, then dinner that I will take time to cook myself or out at the soup kitchen together with friends followed by a slow evening with my wife, read more, tone down. It seems pretty dreamy given the amount of pressure in our work days at the moment but it can become a reality, I’m looking forward to it.
