Devaloy and Darylaine
What country are you from?
Orlando, Florida, USA. We both grew up in Puerto Rico.
What drew you to the MEV and what excites you about living in this community?
Ever since we retired in 2023 we've been dreaming of finishing our retirement in a sustainable eco community in Spain. We assumed there were many of them, but when we searched, the only Modern ECO Village was, well, the MEV. The others were mostly hippie communes.
We are excited about being among the first group to reserve and invest in the MEV, and being involved in the development of the community. We look forward to living in a carbon negative villa, driving our EV around Spain and Europe, and navigating the nearby lake on our electric Jet Ski.
Who are you as a person? (personality, values, etc.)
Darylaine is passionate about spending time with family and friends, and helping people. She is very social and empathetic. She also enjoys music: listening, percussion playing, and dancing.
Devaloy is also passionate about music (playing guitar and piano, and composing), and about technology. Though retired, he is a lifelong learner. Finally, Devaloy loves science fiction movies and programs.
Tell us about yourself and/or your family—your interests, hobbies, occupation, and passions.
We are both passionate about sustainability and conservation. We believe all entities: nations, corporations, and individuals have the responsibility of taking care of the environment and the finite resources of the planet. We are advocates for renewable energy generation, and the de-carbonization/electrification of all modes of transportation. We also believe that good nutrition is the key to a healthy life, and the best way to avoid illness.
What will be your role in the community? (e.g., sustainability projects, community gatherings, permaculture, holistic wellness, creative workshops, education, etc.)
Darylaine enjoys cooking, so she could get involved in food preparation activities. As an attorney, people always come to her for advice, and she enjoys helping people.
Devaloy could help the community by helping organize and manage a "Geek Squad:" a group of techies managing technology issues in the MEV, and helping village residents with their technology challenges. For example, Smart Home control and integrations.
We could both help with translating between English and Spanish. And finally, we could participate in musical/dancing events, and even be part of an "MEV band!"
What does your dream community look like? Dream day in the MEV?
Darylaine would wake up early, and head for the community center, to socialize and have breakfast. She would bring something fresh to contribute to Devaloy's breakfast. After breakfast we would probably dive into the pool, and take in the scenery of the new day. We would then do our daily exercise (perhaps by walking through the parks or orchards). Often we would head to the lake and do some electric Jet Skiing. Other times we would participate in community activities, or cozy up to watch a movie.
